INSIDEMAINLAND – The Lagos State Government has promised to provide well-equipped laboratories for students as part of efforts to strengthen the application of technology among youths in the state.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mr. Hakeem Fahm, the state Commissioner for science and technology, made the pledge at the celebration of the 2022 World Science Day for Peace and Development in Lagos.
Fahm said, “For any nation to grow, science must provide ways to strengthen the application of technology, especially in schools as the students are the leaders of tomorrow and our goal to achieve technological advancement can only be realized if we encourage the study of science subjects in all schools.
“The creative thinking capacity of our youths can be expressed and productively harnessed through encouragement, capacity building, and maximization of potential and an enabling environment, as the state will not relent in its effort to provide well-equipped science laboratories in all schools.”
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ibilola Kasunmu, added that the state government had started an initiative to address the consequences of carbon footprints through a school competition in which students will propose measures to minimize the effects of carbon.
Olanrewaju Afinni, the House Committee on Science and Technology Chairman, urged participants to keep up World Science Day for Peace and Development’s goals by raising public understanding of science’s place in society.
