INSIDEMAINLAND – The Lagos State Government has amended the 2023 unified school calendar ahead of the upcoming general elections.

In a statement released on Friday, January 13, 2023, and signed by Mrs. Adepeju Adeyemi, the Assistant Director of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), she noted that the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, approved a change in the dates originally scheduled for the mid-term break of the Second Term of the 2022/2023 academic year from Friday, February 24 to Friday, March 3.

The statement stated that the Office of Education Quality Assurance’s (OEQA) Director General, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, recently informed stakeholders that the upcoming general elections had prompted a reassessment of the harmonized academic calendar for 2022–2023.

Part of the statement reads: “In furtherance to the change, the first half of the second term is to hold from the 9th of January to Thursday, February 23, 2023, while Open Day for Primary schools will be on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, and Thursday, February 23, 2023, for secondary schools.”

The statement further stated that safeguarding and protecting students was necessary because boarding school students were expected to return to their earlier schedules for the second term of the synchronized 2022–2023 academic calendar on Saturday, February 25, 2023, the same day as the presidential and National Assembly elections.
