Lagos Set Out to become African Smart City Hub

INSIDEMAINLAND – The Lagos State Government has addressed the importance of the state being technologically oriented in order to become an African Smart City Hub and meet 21st-century standards.

Bisola Coker-Odusote, the General Manager of Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA), who made this statement also pointed out that the third annual stakeholder’s conference for the ministry, which will take place on October 4, was intended to lay out the government’s infrastructural approach to completing the project.

She said that the state government had a strong commitment to the unified fiber duct infrastructure project, which she called the smart city program.

Bisola informed the team that private partnerships would be used for the project and that they would supervise it for 25 years before the government takes control.

The initiative, according to Coker-Odusote, will also cover the state’s digital cabinet and biometric system, the Lagos ferry, and other performance-related sectors in keeping with the state’s main aims.

Also, “We want Lagos to be the Smart City hub of Africa and 80 percent progress has been made so far. The vision of LASIMRA is to be a model technology-driven and innovative regulatory agency that guarantees public safety through the enforcement of regulations for the development and maintenance of all categories of ‘utility infrastructure’ in public space.”

However, Odusote informed the team that the government had put safety measures in place for its properties.

In her words, “We have monitoring and enforcement departments that have been set up to effectively monitor government’s properties. Anyone who destroys government property will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.”
