IN IGANDO: Residents Fault Police over Injustice

INSIDEMAINLAND – A lady named Happiness Liberty has accused the police officers assigned to the Lagos State Police Command’s Igando Police Division of jailing and torturing her, her husband, and their three children, including an 11-month-old infant.

Happiness, a resident of Igando in the Alimosho Axis of Lagos Mainland, claimed that the police officers assaulted the suspects for four days while depriving them of food before their arraignment at the Magistrates’ Court.

She further said that she and her children had been injured and that the police had arrested the family in order to hide the abuse.

The mother of three wrote an SOS text about the incident with the title “Torture and illegal detention of my husband, his siblings, myself and my children,” which revealed that on September 11, 2022, on a Sunday evening, her spouse was hit by a commercial motorcycle.

The motorcyclist named Martins A, who later revealed himself as a policeman, hit her husband instead of offering an apology.

She added that the police officer had also hit her younger sister, who was carrying an 11-month-old baby.

“After beating, they arrested and detained my husband, his siblings, myself and my three children and 11 months old respectively. They didn’t allow us to make calls. They treated us like criminals”, She added.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police’s public relations officer, replied: “The entire family is at the police headquarters and the DPO and another officer involved is also here. The X-Squad Department of the command has commenced in-depth investigations”
