INEC Debunks Arrest of Officials

INSIDEMAINLAND– The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State on Saturday refuted claims that several of its employees had been detained for allegedly setting up an unauthorized voter registration center.

This clarification was provided by Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lagos state, in an interview on Saturday.

According to certain media outlets, three INEC employees in the state were detained by police from the Ijeshatedo police station for reportedly plotting to establish an unauthorized Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) center inside St. Brigigs Catholic Church in Ijeshatedo, Lagos.

Agbaje responded by calling the news report “false news

“All my staff and machines are complete. No member of INEC staff was arrested anywhere in Lagos on Friday,” the REC said.

NEC denied on Friday that attackers had broken into the same CVR center and taken its enrollment machinery.

Prior to the CVR deadline of July 31, there had been a significant increase at the majority of voter enrollment centers in the state.
