INSIDEMAINLAND – An American-based music record label, Stan Media Group Music Brand, also known as SMG, has launched operations in the Nigerian music industry.
Speaking at the official launch of the label in Ikeja, Lagos Mainland, SMG CEO, Stan Chucks, who was represented by Mr. Ayo Sogbuyi, the CEO and President Afrika Konnekt News Network, said the label is more than just music, as it is a combination of music and other entertainment-related businesses.
“For the records, SMG Music Brand is an international trademark that specializes in artist management, music marketing, and promotions with an in-depth bias for shows/events engagement and world-class tours and concert consultancy. SMG Music Brand is more than just music and we are ready to take give value to the society that gave us the hope and opportunity to discover many talents in Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
Sogbuyi, also noted that SMG Music Brand is coming into the Nigerian music market to add value, nurture and discover talent.
“What we are doing today will herald a perfect combination of brand awareness creation and strategy to build a community of brand believers for talents search and generate massive interest and top of the mind awareness for the SMG Music Brand, thereby creating an enabling platform for spontaneous talents empowerment in Nigeria and beyond.
“But I will also want you all to know that the official launch of SMG Music Brand offerings is to take over the music and entertainment,” he added.
SMG signs first music act
Also at the launch event, the SMG Music Brand announced the signing of its first act, Ologbe Olanrewaju Lawrence also known as I.G Blaq.
The new act who hails from Ikare Akoko Ondo State debuted his music video for his first single titled, “More Than My Thought”.
He said his journey from how he started in the industry to being an associate of the SMG Music Brand inspired the body of the song.
I.G Blaq, when asked what he will be doing differently in the music industry said: “Everybody knows the Nigerian music industry is not easy, before you can get to the top it requires putting in work, but I am blessed to be a part of the SMG family. As you can see, everyone is different, I’m bringing my own style into the industry, just watch out.”
Blaq who is also a dancer and producer told INSIDEMAINLAND that he currently has a lot of songs underway as he described Afropop Legend, Wizkid as someone he would like to work it.
Gracing the event as a special guest is a popular hype-man and singer, Slimcase urged the new act to be hardworking and humble saying that it is the only way to succeeding in the industry.
“I like his music and I like his voice, he has it in him and I think he is going to make it in the industry. For me, his music is good, because good music can stand the test of time. It is also important that he is humble, he shouldn’t look down on anybody, he shouldn’t shade any celebrity on social media. Stand your ground and do your thing, the likes of Simi, Adekunle Gold are good examples of that, I think with all that he will go a long way.” Slimcase said.
SMG Music Brand is a U.S-based record company in Inglewood, California. It is owned by Nigerian-born music executive and entrepreneur Stan Chucks who is also based in California.
