The Lagos State Chapter National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has debunked claim that it was involved in a clash with Okada riders in the Iyana-Iba and Ojo areas of the state on Monday.
The spokesperson for the union, Jimoh Buhari in an interview with PUNCH on Monday, said the union involved in the clash was the Road Transport Employers’ Association Of Nigeria (RTEAN).
He said: “NURTW was not involved in the clash. RTEAN and its Okada arm were the ones involved in the clash,”.
It was gathered that when the leader of RTEAN in the area Oniba of Iba, Alhaji Suleiman Adeshina, popularly known as ‘Jafo Authority’, declined comments on the matter when contacted.
It will be recalled that INSIDEMMAINLAND had earlier reported that the police has restored calm to the affected area.
Spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement said normalcy had been restored to the affected areas.
According to the PPRO, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional police personnel in the area to maintain law and order.
