Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, Executive Chairman, Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, says the council has started construction of Primary Healthcare Centres in two communities.
Egunjobi said in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ismael Garba, on Wednesday in Lagos that this would enable people in the area to have easy access to quality healthcare.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some residents recently staged a peaceful protest at the council secretariat, calling for establishment of PHCs in some communities.
“Work has commenced on the construction of a Primary Healthcare Centre for residents of Ward D in Agege community. “The healthcare centre, when completed, will enable residents of Ward D and its environs to have easy access to quality healthcare,” he said.
According to him, it will interest the entire people of Agege community that work is also at an advanced stage of completion at another PHC in Ajegunle area of the community.
The council chief said the facilities were part of the promises he made during campaign to provide quality and affordable healthcare for people in the local government area.
“We now focus more on community health services, especially as we are experiencing the second wave of COVID-19 worldwide,” he said.
Egunjobi, however, urged the residents to make good use of the facilities when completed for sustainability.
