LASIEC assures of readiness to conduct LGA and LCDA elections in 2021

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has assured of the state’s readiness to conduct a free and credible Local Government and Local Council Development Areas election in 2021.

This assurance was made by the LASIEC Chairman Justice Ayo Philips during a visit to the chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government on Monday.

Philips who was represented at the visit tour by Dr. Bunmi Omosehindemi assured that local government election will hold next and tasked the local government authorities to be prepared and put hands together to ensure success of the election.

He said: “the essence of our visit is to get the council authority in tune with our preparation for the coming election and to set the ball rolling through adequate preparation necessary for the guaranteed of a free and fair election”.

Omosehindemi stated further that “the essence of the visit is to enable the commission have a first -hand information on the working environment and the challenges confronting LASIEC offices at various local governments in the state with a view of putting necessary measures in place as part of the preparation for a smooth electoral exercise to take place next year”.

The Oshodi-Isolo Local Government LASIEC Electoral Officer, Mr. Tunde Oladiran, reeled out some of the challenges confronting them at the council.

He said part of the challenges confronting the council is lack of provision of an adequate store for the housing of pre- and post-election materials.

In his response, the council chairman, Hon. Idris Bolaji Muse who was represented by the vice-chairman, Hon. Diasi Oso appreciated the electoral umpire team for the visit.

The council boss assured them of the council authority’s robust and healthy cooperation in preparation for the next year’s election.

Hon. Diasi however called on the electoral body to look into the statistic used for delimitattion of constituencies in the council to meet the present-day reality to guarantee adequate representation of the people.
