President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly appointed 75 years old former associate, professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari as his new Chief of Staff.
Professor Agboola is a native of Ilorin, Kwara State, and was a one time Nigerian Minister For External Affairs between 1984 and 1985 under the military rule of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Gambari, a professor of political science, was formerly appointed by the secretary-general of United Nations Ban Ki-moon as the chairperson of the African Union Commission and as Joint African Union-United Nations Special Representative for Darfur in January 2010.
The renowned scholar and diplomat have held various positions in Nigeria and the diaspora. He was appointed the pioneer chancellor of Kwara State University(KWASU) in 2013 by the Kwara State Government under the administration of Alhaji Abdul Fattah Ahmad Maigida in 2013.
He had also served as the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations (USG) for the Department of Political Affairs (DPA) from 2005 to 2010.
Before his appointment as the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari on the 12th of May, 2020, Professor Gambari was currently engaged as the Special Adviser on the International Compact with Iraq and Other Issues for the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Professor Ibrahim was appointed the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari following the death of the former chief of staff, Mallam Abba Kyari due to COVID-19 complications.
