The remains of highlife Maestro and ace musician, Victor Olaiya was buried in Lagos yesterday. The interment of the late musical legend was done at the Vaults & Garden Cemetery, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The funeral was attended by selected family members and in proper adherence to the regulations set by the Lagos State Government on burials as a result of the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.
The ceremony was streamed live on Facebook with attendees observing proper social distancing rulings and was visibly seen using face masks.
Olaiya was laid in state briefly at a hall to enable family, friends and well-wishers to pay their last respects to his departed soul. He was later carried away in a shiny brown casket for the interment at Ikoyi.
The preceding ceremony was devoid of the usual fanfare and paparazzi associated with the celebration of the life of great musicians and artists in Nigeria and the world over.
Victor Olaiya died at the age of 89 years after an illustrious musical career spanning above 50 years. He will be remembered for various hit albums and his prowess in using the trumpet.
Ace trumpeter, Victor Olaiya was born on the 31st of December 1930. he died on the 12th of February 2020 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba.
