The soldiers threatening rape in Warri arrested at Ikeja Cantonment

Following the viral news of officers attached to the Nigerian Army who threatened to abuse some women in Warri, Delta State, the Nigerian Army has announced that the officers have been arrested at Ikeja Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos Mainland.

The arrest of the officers involved in the act was announced by the Nigerian Army in a statement shared on its official Twitter page.

According to the Army; “Soldiers in a viral video using uncouth and uncivilized language purportedly threatening to molest women in Warri Delta State were arrested at 9 Brigade Ikeja Military Cantonment Lagos State today 3 April 2020 and further investigation is ongoing.

“The general public should be assured that the investigations will be swift and fair in accordance with applicable military laws. The outcome of the investigations will determine the most appropriate disciplinary measures that can be taken in the circumstance.”

While assuring Nigerians of its intolerance to abuse and indiscipline, the Army said; “ The Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate that it would not tolerate any form of irresponsibility and indiscipline on the part of any of its personnel.”

The development has since generated reactions from Nigerians across social media. In his comments, celebrated investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo said the Army should share the evidence of arrest of the erring officers with the public.
