The senator representing Lagos Central who spoke said the Senate would assist the organisation in all areas of its needs, especially in unbundling itself to break new grounds.
The committee chairman hailed the Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, Dr. Ismail Adebayo Adewusi, for providing what she called “pragmatic leadership” to the corporation.
She noted that despite NIPOST’s challenges, the Postmaster General was leading management that was thinking out of the box to get enable the corporation to improve its service delivery.
The committee chairman lauded NIPOST’s plan to float two companies targeted at creating the new business potential for the postal organisation.
Senator Tinubu said the committee was aware of the seeming difficulties NIPOST was facing but assured the management that those ideas could serve as springboards to better corporate successes for NIPOST.
Explaining that law-making is dynamic, the chairman said acts that had been assented to could be re-examined while there could be a review of the Finance Act, which was recently assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.
A member of the committee, Opeyemi Bamidele, suggested that NIPOST’s Legal Department could liaise with the committee to explain its argument on whether or not the Act supports electronic stamps as against adhesive/postage stamps.
Adewusi listed the difficulties impeding NIPOST’s duties, specifically the Finance Act.
He sought the support of the legislators to enact laws that would enhance the transformation of the organisation in line with the current economic realities.
