by Alli Mustapha

Power distribution company, Ikeja Electric (IE) has signed a bilateral agreement with residents of Maryland community, Lagos Mainland, to supply them 24-hour electricity.

Signed yesterday, Tuesday, March 3, 2020, the electricity distribution company announced on the development via its official Twitter handle, drawing positive feedback from residents of the axis.

As a result of the development, residents of Maryland Crescent and Aderibigbe Shitta Street, Maryland, Lagos Mainland, will henceforth enjoy 24/7.

The power disco tweeted saying; “Ikeja Electric signs Bilateral Power Agreement with Maryland Crescent/Aderibigbe Shitta Street Residents Association. Residents to enjoy up to 24 hours of supply daily”

Recall that in October 2019, Ikeja Electric signed a deal with residents of Ikeja Government Residential Area after having signed a premium power agreement with residents of Magodo Estate in August of that same year.

The premium power initiative is a power purchase agreement under the Willing Buyer, Willing Seller initiative issued by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The development has since drawn mixed reactions from social media users. While a section condemned the move, a few others heaped praises on the power company for the bold move.
