An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered that the five men, who allegedly stabbed Moradeun Balogun on her way from work at a bus stop in Gbagada, Lagos Mainland, be remanded in a correctional facility.
The deceased was stabbed on her neck with a knife on December 2, 2019, at around 7:00pm when she was on her way home. At the time, she was reportedly rejected in the hospital for lack of Police report and died from the injuries sustained. The defendants also stole her laptop and other valuables.
Following the reactions that followed her death on social media, the Police charged Obi, 24; Ugochukwu , 20; Chidiebere , 35; Samuel, 32; Faruk, 20 with three counts of conspiracy, robbery, and murder.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. A.O. Komolafe, who did not take the plea of the suspects, ordered that they should be kept in the Nigerian Correctional Service in Ikoyi, pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions. She adjourned the case until January 16, 2020.
The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Kehinde Omisakin alleged that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 223, while conspiracy to wit murder and robbery contravenes 299, robbery contravenes 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
