A school principal, Samson Adeyemo, yesterday, Monday, January 13, 2020, told the Ikeja High Court, Lagos, that he lured and defiled 17-year-old twin sisters (names withheld) in the school premises.
Adeyemo, who testified from the witness box, said he lured the twins to his office on separate occasions, had sexual intercourse with them and eventually impregnated one of them. The offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The state prosecutor, M. S. Oshodi, said the defendant committed the offence sometimes in 2016 at Beckley Estate, Abule-Egba. However, during cross-examination by the prosecutor, Adeyemo said that he had relationships with both sisters at different times out of love.
He said: “I was in good relationships with both twin sisters at different times. But I was truly in love with her, who later became pregnant for me. I also had a marriage agreement with one of the twins while our sexual relationship lasted. The other twin just got carnal with me knowing that I was her sister’s boyfriend and she likes me.”
According to him, he was married to one of the twins, but this was not done in the church or court but an agreement between him and her. It was strictly a marriage relationship that was known to both of them, but he only started sleeping with after he met with her mother in 2016.
He, however, denied having sexual relationships with other students in the school.
Led in evidence by the Defence Counsel, Mr. R. O. Akande, Adeyemo said that one of the sisters had become jealous when she discovered that her twin was in a relationship with him.
“In 2017, one of the girsl got pregnant and I decided to cater for her but the parents insisted that the pregnancy will be aborted. I refused because I wanted the baby and I wanted to marry her as well. I gave her some upkeep money and her parents collected the money from her and terminated the pregnancy. Her father asked him to pay N200,000 or be punished”.
“Two days after the twin’s uncle, named Kayode alias Kokoro, led some thugs to beat me up and on April 26, 2017, I was called by Kayode that I should meet him to sign an undertaking that the twins shall collect their WAEC results. I went to meet him not knowing that he had laid ambush for me and he handed me over to the police”.
The twins were both in SS1, but in separate classes, when the principal had sex with them using a camp bed in the office which they hid from each other.
Recounting the events, one of the girls said; “He continued having sex with me over a long period of time until I became pregnant. I was unaware that I was pregnant until one of our neighbours noticed some changes in my body and informed my mother. When my mother confronted me with a slap, I told her that the principal had been having sex with me inside his office.”
Also testifying on October 7, 2019, Dr. Oyedeji Alagbe, a consultant with the Mirabel Centre (a sexual assault referral centre) had told the court that while making efforts to terminate the pregnancy, it was revealed to the parents that Adeyemo was also defiling the other twin.
However, Justice Sherifat Solebo adjourned the case until February 24 for adoption of final written addresses.
