by Leslie Jacks

Motorists and commuters using the popular Ikeja bridge at Computer Villa, Ikeja, are currently experiencing slow movement of traffic as a result of a danfo commercial bus which caught fire on Ikeja Bridge.

In a video of the development which surfaced on Twitter, the commercial bus was totally engulfed by fire while onlookers await the arrival of rescue officers to tend to the situation.

According to the user who shared the information online, he posted; “Burning car on Ikeja Bridge inw Kodesoh causing traffic backlog to GTB on Oba Akran. Men of Fire Service already enroute. Motorists should be patient.”

While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained as at press time, commuters are advised to use alternative routes.

Presently, videos of the fire incident circulating on social media platforms show commuters and passersby scampering for safety as the fire rages on.

A user decried the lack of security consciousness amongst road transport workers, noting that the fire could have been prevented if the bus had a fire extinguisher.

The Lagos State Fire Service team were yet to arrive the scene of incident as at press time.
