Joseph Edgar set to disrupt theatre with ‘AREMU’

Celebrated Theatre producer and investment banker, Joseph Edgar would be disrupting the scene once again with his explosive new play titled AREMU.

AREMU will depict the life and times of one of the most celebrated and influential Nigerian, Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Coming directly on the heels of his play EMOTAN which would be showing this October in Benin during the upcoming NAFEST, AREMU is expected to consolidate his theatre franchise – Duke of Shomolu Productions as one of the most enigmatic platforms in the exciting Nigerian Theatre ppace.

Written by the enigmatic Professor of Theatre Arts and Former Director General of the National Troupe, Professor Ahmed Yerima, AREMU would take the audience through the humble peasant birth of General Obasanjo throwing up his triumphs and struggles as he builds one of the most enduring legacies in modern day Africa.

William Benson, the massively gifted theatre Director would be returning after his super successful showing with Oba Esugbayi last December to tell this story using some compelling song and dance routines guaranteed to leave the audience in awe of the story that is AREMU.

Chief Obasanjo has given his blessing to the project which should see it premier in Abeokuta during festivities to mark his birthday in March 2019 and from there begin its 3-year run through three continents.

According to Edgar, 1 million people are expected to see AREMU globally and the story will not only celebrate this very colourful and influential statesman, it would also serve to strengthen some of the values that he has spent almost all of his life propagating.

The project parades a brilliant technical team including Ayo Aderinwale Deputy Chief Coordinator of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library who will also double as the Co Executive Producer; talented actress and theatre personality Bikiya Graham Douglas; Yemi Shodimu among others.
