A female officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), identified as Remilekun Arogundade, has been crushed to death by a trailer at the Apapa area of Lagos Mainland.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening, May 26, 2019, at about 4:30pm.
The late Remilekun was said to be attached to the Apapa Zone 36 station base.
It was gathered that the officer was at the back of the long vehicle as the driver was trying to reverse when the tragedy struck, crushing her to death instantly.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the trailer was not aware of the deceased’s presence.
Spokesperson for the LASTMA, Mamud Hassan, confirmed the tragedy, saying the officer was controlling traffic when the trailer reverse and crushed her.
According to him, the driver of the trailer fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle, which had been impounded by the police.
Hassan disclosed that the deceased was survived by her two-year-old daughter, a husband who worked in one of the local government councils in the state and a grandmother.
Her remains have been evacuated from the scene of the tragedy and deposited at the Lagos Island General Hospital morgue.
