One month after killing his colleague, Monday Odey who has since been on the run is now cooling his heels at the Lagos State Police Command.
Odey, a security guard at Magodo Phase 2, Lagos Mainland, was said to have, on April 4, 2019, used a shovel to hit his colleague identified as Abdullahi Yinusa on the head and face which led to his death.
The fugitive was traced to Iwo, Osun State, and apprehended by the Police on Thursday, May 2, 2019, confessed to the commission of the crime.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the arrest in a statement said: “The suspect absconded to unknown destination immediately after committing the offence. Both the suspect and the deceased person were security guards working at the residence of the complainant.”
Elkana revealed that that the suspect has been accused of stealing valuable items belonging to the complainant such as clothes, bicycles, among others.
“The suspect was confronted over his incessant stealing habit, by the deceased person and the suspect picked offence and threatened to kill the said Abdullahi Yinusa for challenging him. The complainant, being their employer responded by sacking the suspect and ordered him to vacate the premises immediately,” the PPRO added.
It was learnt that the suspect returned to the house after his sack, under the guise of taking his personal belongings and murdered Abdullahi Yinusa. After killing the deceased person, the suspect dumped the corpse at a canal behind their master’s house and absconded.
Elkana concluded that the suspect would be charged to court for murder.
If found guilty, Odey would be spending the rest of his life in prison.
