NEWS AROUND US: Many pupils feared dead as school building collapses in Lagos

Many primary school pupils were feared dead today, Wednesday, March 13, 2019, after a three-storeyed building collapsed at Itafaji, Lagos Island.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 10:00am with the school, identified as Baden School, said to be on the last floor.

A resident of the area, Prince Adams, who alerted the public to the incident, said no fewer than 10 pupils had been removed from the rubble so far.

“It is terrible. Parents are crying. I can’t withstand the gory sight,” he added.

Commenting, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Kehinde Adebayo, confirmed the collapse, adding that emergency officials were already on ground.

As at the time of filing this report, many students are being rushed to the General Hospital, Marina, while parents are trooping there to search for their children.

It’s gathered that over 100 students are currently still trapped in the rubble and being dug out.
