The Ijegun community of Lagos Mainland is reputed as one of the Lagos communities flowing with petroleum products occasioned by pipeline vandalism.
In a recent video that has surfaced on the internet, residents were seen at different spots siphoning petroleum products into jerry cans.
In the video, however, a large number of officers of the Nigeria Army and Police were seen in the video witnessing the scooping of fuel by the residents with a fire truck in position.
Although it can be seen in the video that some parts of the area where PMS was scooped from had been barricaded preventing onlookers from coming close, it became worrying upon the sight of uniformed military men overseeing residents scooping the spill, rather than men who were trained for the purpose.
The development has led to mixed reactions from residents in other parts of the state with a myriad of social media users expressing their shock at the discovery.
Commenting, Tolu wrote: “Environmental management yada yara. These people shouldn’t even be the one scooping the spill for crying out loud. One of the reasons why I have always been saying we really need oil spill response team in that country, a real one o.”
