A 32-year-old man, Adebayo Fasina, who was on Friday, February 11, charged with rape, told the court that he was attracted to a 14-year-old girl by the curves of her breast.
Fasina appeared before an Ogba chief magistrate court on allegations of rape and assault. The accused, if found guilty, might face a six-year jail term for the offence.
Looking rattled in the dock and pleading it was the handiwork of the devil, Fasina said, “I was always attracted to the girl by the shape of her breasts anytime she passed by my house.”
Police prosecutor, Superintendent E. Ayorinde, told the court that the incident happened at Eloseh Street in the Ikate area of Surulere, Lagos.
Ayorinde alleged that the accused had admitted that he lured the girl into his apartment, grabbed her breasts and attempted to have carnal knowledge of her.
The prosecutor said that the girl, however, screamed and he was compelled to allow her go.
“The case was reported at the station by the girl’s parents and Fasina was arrested and detained at the police station,” Ayorinde added.
The prosecutor said that the matter was later transferred to the Gender Section of the police command for further investigation.
The court rejected the plea of the accused after the prosecutor requested that the case file be sent to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
Thus, the magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered his remand in prison custody without an option of bail pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
