One person has been confirmed dead with many others injured following a clash between members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) and suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in Ikotun, Lagos Mainland.
The violence occurred Thursday morning at Ajala Street, along Abaranje Road in Ikotun, Lagos Mainland.
InsideMainland gathered that members of the OPC attached to the area, at the wee hours of Thursday, allegedly shot dead a suspected member of the Eiye Cult identified as Opaka. This reportedly resulted in a reprisal attack by the cult group sparking panic and pandemonium as the warring groups engaged in a free-for-all.
According to sources, commercial activities were brought to standstill as residents scampered for safety while the fracas ensued.
InsideMainland gathered that guns and other dangerous weapons were used freely in the clash leaving a member of the OPC severely wounded. Other residents who were caught in the fray also sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Also, it was learnt that heavily armed officers attached to the Ikotun Police Station came to the scene of the violence last night but were unable to make arrests as people had fled.
When InsideMainland visited the venue today, Friday, February 1, 2019, the tension was yet to douse as most houses and shops were still under lock and key, giving the street a face of a deserted area.
