Some women who are residents of Igbogbo community, Ikorodu, Lagos Mainland were stunned hearing about the dangers of irregular migration during a recently held sensitization exercise by The Migrant Project in Ikorodu, Lagos Mainland.
The event was held at Agbele Primary Health Care center, Igbogbo-Ikorodu with critical stakeholders including the Chairman of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in attendace.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman while addressing the group of women pointed out that irregular migration is higher with the female gender, most of who face abuse from their partners who feel in the light of the current economic situation of the country.
“In lashing out, such women are subjected to varying degrees if domestic violence. To get away from such an abusive relationships, they seek out greener pastures in other countries without really appreciating the totality of embarking on such a journey,” he said.
In her remarks, Ms. Amaka of The Migrant Project educated the women who had very little knowledge of the ills and misfortunes that their babies stressing that most women who go through such, end up picking up such menial jobs.
