GRIDLOCK: Lagos-Abeokuta expressway still a no-go area

There seems to be no end in sight over the morning gridlock on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway despite plans by the state government to rehabilitate the road.

The ongoing rehabilitation work on the road which was supposed bring respite for road users may have failed as the work progress has been suspended at Ikeja Along with bulldozers still visibly in sight.

The road users have continued to lament that several hours are wasted in the logjam that stretches from Iyana-Ipaja to Oshodi attempting to get to work or meet appointments.

Many commuters opt for commercial motorcycles which takes an average of nine minutes from Iyana-Ipaja to Ikeja-Along Bus Stop, instead of being trapped in vehicular traffic for over one hour.

In the evening, the sad tale is not any different. Motorcycles and public buses constitute nuisance as they choke at the Ikeja-Along Bus Stop jostling for passengers, compounding the woes of motorists coming from Oshodi, Lagos Mainland and other adjoining areas.

The route is not the best place to go through when one has a morning appointment as it poses unpredictable traffic experiences for commuters.
