Residents and motorists along Ashade in Agege community, Lagos Mainland, were left in shock in the early hours of this morning, Thursday, January 10, 2019, after two coaches in a train plying the axis derailed from its track.
As a result of the accident, the train lost balance while residents and bystanders scampered for safety.
The incident occurred along the rail track just by the Ashade-Agege ram market where hundreds of residents trade daily.
Reacting to the incident, the management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in a message posted on its official Twitter handle confirmed the accident saying; “Yes there was a derailing, but no one is trapped inside ATM. Concerned Emergency Services on ground.”
The accident is coming few days after the operatives of the Lagos State Task Force commenced a total clampdown on traders along rail tracks across Lagos Mainland communities.
During the enforcement exercise, the Task Force team has confiscated products of traders along communities such as Agege, Ikeja, Yaba, Oshodi, and Oyingbo on the Lagos Mainland.
