IN YABA: LG warns youths from tampering with electric transformers

Following the spike in the activities of youths who lack requisite training in maintenance and operation of transformers in the Yaba community, Lagos Mainland, the Executive Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Authority (LCDA), Kayode Omiyale, has advised community leaders to warm their wards to stay away from transformers.

The council boss made the remarks during the presentation of a 500KVA Transformer to Apollo Community in Makoko, Yaba, Lagos Mainland, saying youths in communities have cultivated the idea of tampering with transformers when it appears that something went wrong with it.

According to him; “When you notice any fault in the transformer, contact the relevant agency responsible for effecting repairs. Resulting to self-help will endanger the transformer and shorten its lifespan. This is a new transformer purchased by the council despite the fact that PHCN has been privatised to individuals that are supposed to provide these facilities.

“ I know that Apollo Community has not had electricity for more than two years now, and as a responsible government, we cannot wait for the relevant agency to provide the transformer forever.”

He added that; “Allow only experts to handle the transformer; desist from changing lines, stay on your line until the company restores power. Do not overload a particular line for whatever reason.”

Reacting to the development, the Baale of Apollo community, Chief Ibrahim Aladetan, thanked the council for coming to their aid, especially during the yuletide.

He stressed that the contribution of the council administration towards the growth of communities under the council cannot be overemphasized.
