In the aftermath of the spike in crime most especially traffic robbery in the yuletide season as a result of the increase in movement of people in and across communities on the Lagos metropolis, the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command, ACP Tunji Disu has shared interesting safety tips for residents to avoid being caught unawares.
In an engaging Twitter chat with InsideMainland, ACP Disu stressed that his team with the support of the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, has commenced regular raids of black spots in the state to arrest the criminals.
He added that with a surveillance team that works round the clock, Mainlanders and other Lagos residents should be at ease and enjoy the festivities during this season. “We have deployed more bike teams at nights and we have our decoy teams at black spots etc. They pick suspects and recover stolen phones, purses etc daily,” he said.
Meanwhile, sharing the safety tips, ACP Disu advised residents that; “Don’t drink and drive, don’t drive and text. If possible avoid crowded places. trust your instinct and keep financial transactions private.”
He added that; “Use ATM in well-lit places and let someone close know your movement. Also, avoid lonely routes at night and endeavour to have call credit on your phones at night.”
He concluded saying; “In conformity with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, we have commenced 24 hrs patrol of all the nooks and crannies of the town, raids of known black spots, and the use of polite stop and search at particular periods of the day. With these efforts put in place, residents should be assured that their safety is our priority.”
He however advised residents to swiftly report any suspicious events around them to relevant security agencies for prompt action to be taken.
