The Anti-kidnapping unit of the Lagos State police Command has announced the death of a notorious kidnapper identified as Sunday and the arrest of two other suspects, Ebi Gabriel and Promise Ajele who were caught in Imota, Ikorodu, Lagos Mainland.
According to the Police, the deceased was killed during a fierce gun battle between the security operatives and the gang who opened fire on the Police.
While parading the suspects, the State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal said the Command raided the hideout of the kidnappers following credible information received from concerned residents. He added that the suspects found their way into the State in a bid to kidnap some notable persons in Iba area of Ojo Local Government, Lagos Mainland.
“Acting on credible intelligence received on December 9, 2018, that a gang of kidnappers had sneaked into the State, I directed the Commander, Anti-Kidnapping Squad to pro-actively ensure that they did not carry out their plan.
“Consequently, the Squad swung into action immediately; tapping into the intelligence resource of the Command, were able to locate them in their hideout at Imota, Ikorodu, on December 11,” Edgal said.
He added that a gunfire battle between the Command and the gang had led to the death of Sunday while the two other suspects surrendered.
“However, when the hoodlums sighted the approaching operatives they opened fire on them and the Police responded. During the exchange of fire, one Sunday was gunned down while two others were apprehended,” the Police boss said.
Edgal stated further that one locally cut-to-size double barrel pistol, one expended cartridge and three live cartridges, were recovered from the suspects adding that efforts are being made to arrest the members that fled during the raid.
He concluded that the suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigation.
