In the aftermath of the arrest of Agege based singer, Small Doctor for illegal possession of firearm and allegedly threatening to shoot a police officer of the Lagos State Police Command, checks have shown that the singer might spend up to fifteen years in jail if found guilty.
Recall that Small Doctor was arrested yesterday, Monday, December 3, 2018, alongside two other accomplices along Oshodi, Lagos Mainland.
Following the arrest, the Command Police stated that the singer will be prosecuted for a similar incident committed in November 2017 when he fired pellets that allegedly injured four persons at a show at the Agege Stadium, Lagos Mainland.
However, if found guilty, the singer may spend up to fifteen years in jail.
According to Section 3 of Nigeria’s firearm act, which prohibits the possession or control of firearms, any person(s) found guilty shall be “liable to a minimum sentence of ten years”.
In addition, Section 4 of the same act, which restricts the possession or control of personal firearms, as well as Section 9 which restricts the possession or control of ammunition in respect of certain firearms, also states that anyone found guilty of violation is liable to serve jail term “not exceeding five years.”
As a result, the singer may have to defend himself in court as the Command has insisted he will be charged alongside his accomplices.
Since the news broke, fans and music followers have shared divided opinion with the singer’s avid followers strongly defending him.
Meanwhile, his arrest is coming few days after he announced a music concert tagged, ‘Omo Better’ concert billed to hold in Agege, Lagos Mainland, on Sunday, December 9, 2018.
It is however uncertain if the singer will go ahead with the planned gig due to the recent developments.
