Days after InsideMainland reported the rising case of armed robbery and car theft in Surulere community, Lagos Mainland, the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended three suspected robbers during an operation in the community.
The suspects – Ezekiel Andrew; Sikiru Tajudeen and Ibrahim Kazeem – were arrested for allegedly robbing unsuspecting passengers who boarded their vehicle of their properties and valuables.
According to the Police, the suspects specializes in using their commercial vehicle as a means of robbing unsuspecting passengers.
The suspect were apprehended by security operatives from Ikeja deployed to the area just after the Command got information that they were operating in a danfo bus around Surulere, Lagos Mainland.
When the passengers noticed the presence of the operatives in the area, they raised alarm which got their attention, the Police said.
In the process, the danfo buses used by the robbery gang with the plate number APP 416 XX and SMK 367 XR, was stopped, and the passengers rescued. The suspects were subsequently arrested by the operatives.
Speaking on the development, the spokesperson Lagos State Police Command, CSP Chike Oti said investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court.
Residents and commuters are however advised to be careful and take good care of their properties. In addition, residents should report suspicious activities to the police immediately it is noticed to avoid upcoming cases and reduce to the lowest minimum the rate of robbery cases in the area.
