Beware, there is a rising case of robbery and car theft in Surulere

There is currently an increase in armed robbery in Surulere, Lagos Mainland, as residents of the community have shared reports of armed robbery, car thefts and loss of properties in the area.

In October 2018 alone, residents who fell victim reported more than four cases of armed robbery with the armed bandits targeting car owners robbing them of their belongings while.

This development has further heightened the fears of the residents who are mostly at the mercy of the armed robbers who are battle ready to wreak havoc at the slightest opportunity.

According to a resident, Adediwura De Catalyste Aderibigbe, who fell victim of the armed bandits in October 2018, the robbers snatched his car at gunpoint around Ogunlana drive, Surulere, at about 10:30pm.

Aderibigbe who pleaded for help in finding his stolen car took to social networking platform, Facebook to narrate his ordeal saying; “I didn’t want to do this but who knows. On Sunday, October 21, 2018, my car was snatched at gunpoint at Ogunlana Drive, Surulere. It happened late in the night at about 10:30 pm.”

Meanwhile, the case was reported at the Area C Command of the Nigerian Police, Ojuelegba, the same night while the search for the car and the robbers continues.

Similarly, another case of robbery in the same community was shared online by a lady, Temitope Salami who had her car windows shattered by armed robbers operating on a motorcycle. According to her, the robbers who were on the motorcycle “started hitting the front passenger window to break the glass but after 4 failed attempts, he decided to use his gun to break it eventually.”

She added that; “We were helpless and I remembered my sister experience so I decided to hit the car in front of me but for where lol he didn’t even come down to check his car for any damage. As the traffic moved, they followed us. They threatened to shoot if we didn’t comply but God was with us, the courage wasn’t natural.”

She added that she and her friend in the same vehicle was eventually saved by the quick intervention of three other men who were riding on another motorcycle in their direction.

In addition, another resident, Abayomi Animashaun shared a warning notice via his Facebook page of a robbery incident that occurred on the popular Bode Thomas Street, Surulere. In the post shard on October 30, 2018, he said; “Alert Lagos Mainland; Report of ongoing armed robbery operation along Bode Thomas street, Surulere area. Police reportedly responding. You are advised to avoid the area.”

In a related development, the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command announced the arrest of a group of armed robbers who specializes in using commercial buses to dispossess unsuspecting passengers of their valuables in Surulere community in October 2018. At the time, the Command said the gang were intercepted in the area following intelligence reports on their criminal activities.

These happenings have led to cries by residents of the axis for increased security presence to prevent future occurrences and bring about a reduction to the spike in robbery cases in the area.

In view of this recent trend, security operatives are implored to look into providing maximum security in Surulere for residents. Also business owners, motorists, and passer-by’s are advised to be wary of happenings around them and take good care of their properties and ensure to report suspicious activity in the area to relevant security agencies.
