There was apprehension among residents and party members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikorodu community during the primary elections of the party earlier today, Friday, October 5, 2018, as thugs unleashed terror in the community.
InsideMainland gathered that the exercise held at the APC Secretariat in Obafemi Awolowo Way, Oke Ota-Ona was disrupted as hoodlums suspected to be working for a politician fired sporadic shots into the air to scare voters who had already arrived the location to vote their choice candidate.
Speaking to InsideMainland, an eyewitness narrated that the peaceful exercise was turned upside when hoodlums who had already mixed with the voters fired shots into the air twice. “The trouble started when supporters of Mr. Nurudeen Agbaje and Prince Gafaar Bolowotan, the main challengers against Hon. SOB Agunbiade, formed an alliance to present a unified candidate in Prince Bolowotan.
“The supporters were already singing and rejoicing at the decision to combine forces when the shots were fired from nowhere. The thugs scared everyone with the gunshots and people had to run for safety. They were suspected to be working for one of the contestants of the candidacy slot for Ikorodu Constituency I slot.
“It took the intervention of security operatives who were mobilized to the secretariat to resolve the situation. The Police fired tear gas into the area before chasing the hoodlums away from the place. At that time, people had ran for safety and the voting couldn’t continue.”
Meanwhile, InsideMainland gathered that the exercise held at Ikorodu North and West LCDAs with residents voting for the candidate to represent their interest at the Lagos House of Assembly during the 2019 elections.
The results of the poll at the centres where elections held are yet to be announced. The election that was disrupted at the APC secretariat in Ikorodu was led by Barrister Williams, InsideMainland gathered.
However, there are allegations that the hoodlums that disrupted the exercise belonged to the camp of Hon. SOB Agunbiade. When contacted for comments, the lawmaker was unavailable while calls made to his media aide were not returned.
Similarly, there were no primaries in Lagos Mainland in the race between the three aspirants, Hon. Oladele Adekanye, Dayo Israel and Alao Seniyan.
It was learnt that the process was scattered when hoodlums took advantage of the situation to wreak havoc in the community.
Four lives were reportedly lost on Thursday while another two were confirmed dead today, Friday, October 5, 2018, with the exercise not able to hold as there were no officials are to conduct the election.
In Ajeromi-Ifelodun community, there were reported riots and bloodshed in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency I and II respectively over the elections.
The fight started yesterday, Thursday, October 4, 2018, at constituency I over the House of Representatives election. In the process, one person was killed and several others wounded.
Presently, there is tension in the community but security operatives have been mobilized to restore normalcy.
