The operatives of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) attached to Mushin Local Government Area have arrested 22 members of an armed gang who allegedly raped two sisters aged 14 and 18 along Itire Road, Mushin, Lagos Mainland, while on their way home from a vigil.
According to the LNSC, the alleged rapists led by a 25 year old, Jimoh Egbere, were apprehended by the operatives after receiving credible intelligence from residents in the area who were appalled by the incident.
It was gathered that the incident occurred after the victims and their brother left the venue of a night vigil service around 4.30 am, running into the hoodlums who took turns to forcefully had carnal knowledge of the sisters.
Apart from raping the sisters, the hoodlums stole their phones and other valuables found on them, the LNSC said.
It was learnt that the Corps had, before the arrest, been on the trail of the gang members after it had received numerous complaints from the public about the dangerous activities of the gang within Mushin and its environs.
The arrested gang members have since been transferred to the Ilupeju police station for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, head of the LNSC, Barrister Gboyega Bajulaiye has urged residents across the state to promptly report happenings in their communities to security operatives for prompt attention.
