Flood: Tragedy averted as residents rescues three from canal in Ojokoro

Tragedy was averted at Obadeyi canal in Ojokoro community, Lagos Mainland yesterday, Monday, September 10, 2018, after residents rescued three persons from being swept away by flood in the axis.

InsideMainland gathered that the incident occurred at about 3:00 pm following the torrential rainfall witnessed in the axis.

It was learnt that the unsuspecting victims were heading to their various destinations oblivious of the danger they were getting into. It, however, took the prompt intervention of residents who were around the area to quickly save them from being swept away by the flood.

Sources told InsideMainland that the woes of residents of the axis was compounded by the heavy rainfall in the last few days as hundreds of residents have been left stuck in their homes due to flood.

While some road users struggle to use the flooded road daily, the heavy traffic gridlock also witnessed in the community has greatly affected movement of vehicles and persons in the axis.

“At the moment, Ijaiye and Obadeyi bus stops along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway are submerged by water. Using the roads have become a nightmare and we barely get out of our homes due to the continuous rainfall,” the source told InsideMainland.

The source, however, pleaded to the government to find a lasting solution the issue of flood in the community adding that it has become a yearly occurrence.
