Contest for Lagos East Senatorial seat heats up as Pepper and Senator Ashafa battle for slot

The race for the Lagos East Senatorial seats becomes hotter as the lawmaker representing Kosofe Constituency I, Hon. Bayo Osinowo aka ‘Pepper’ has declared interest to battle for the slot against incumbent occupant, Senator Gbenga Ashafa.

InsideMainland gathered that the lawmaker who has represented his constituency in the Lagos Assembly for four consecutive terms is leaving no stone unturned towards ensuring he gets the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest in the forthcoming general elections.

Presently, the posters of the lawmaker have surfaced on the internet with followers at his constituency leaving critical information at touch points across the community.

At the moment, the lawmaker has a strong hold on Kosofe and Somolu local governments and is one of the top dogs in the political party at the state level due to his level of influence.

Aside from having close relationship with the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Pepper is famous in his constituency and one of the Lagos Mainland politicians with keen grassroots influence.

InsideMainland gathered that Pepper first sounded his intent to run for Senate with his followers in January 2019 and immediately commenced efforts to win the favour of stakeholders in the party at the time.

Sources revealed that the lawmaker had started approaching notable traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious leaders across the five local governments in the district to market its candidacy to the people.
