IN SURULERE: Fear grips residents as robbers now barge into people’s houses

Residents of Sologun and environs in Aguda community, Surulere, Lagos Mainland, now live fear as notorious bandits currently threatens their existence including barging to their homes at night to steal.

InsideMainland learnt that the robbers continue to terrorize residents in the axis as the robbery incidents have grown into a daily occurrence leaving residents in fear for their lives and properties.

A victim who was recently attacked by the robbers told InsideMainland that the robbers operate in the axis with reckless abandon and often carry out the act when residents are fast asleep.

According to the source who is still in shock at the developments; “Never in my life have I experienced such. It has left me completely disoriented. I became a victim early Monday morning around 2:30 – 3:00 am. The guys tried knocking my entrance door down. They kicked the door like five times despite my screaming for help and wedging the door with chairs.

The source continued further that “I have lived on Sologun Street for the past five years and the attacks by robbers at night is incessantly scary. Houses are robbed with reckless abandon. The attack on my residence left incurable scars on me and my young family.”

When InsideMainland visited the community yesterday, Wednesday, August 22, 2018, residents of the street were reluctant about speaking on the robbery incidents in their community.

A resident who craved anonymity stated that cases of robbery have been heard among other residents but actions were not taken by community leaders to put an end to it. “Most residents and house owners are left alone to fend for themselves in terms of security as the CDA group is nearly non-existent. All they would ask is to pay usual dues but less of action on matters of this nature.”

When queried further on the moves by residents to put an end to the happenings in the area, the resident said “most times, every one goes about their business like you are your best form of security. That is why some houses have guards.”

Reacting to the development, a Police source told InsideMainland that the unit is unaware of the developments in the axis. “Most times, robberies of this nature are barely reported by the residents. We expect that the community leaders in the area would have reported to the Police Division who would investigate and then track the criminals,” the Police source said.

The source however urged victims and residents to promptly report such cases for investigations to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted accordingly.
