Residents of Aguda community, Surulere, Lagos Mainland, have expressed their displeasure and grievances over the outrageous electricity tariffs allegedly issued by the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).
The residents, in a letter sent to the disco company also alleged that they have been living without power for several days.
“Please be informed that your people have disenfranchised us of power service for four days now. Kindly note this for reference and future purpose,” the letter read in part.
Meanwhile, the residents in one of their meetings set up a team to meet with the company to discuss their grievances. However, according to them, the meeting ended in a deadlock.
Asides lamenting several days of power outage, the team also requested that prepaid meters be distributed across the community to tackle the issue of outrageous billing.
According to a resident who spoke on the issue, the electricity distribution company was attempting to disrupt the agitation by supplying power to some areas in the affected communities, after being directed from the headquarters to restore light to the entire community.
“Some of us started contacting the Customer Care Manager who eventually ordered one Ayodele Ogunlade that is the Service Manager at Sanya to restore the light, but because he so much wanted to divide the community to ensure that it affected the agitation, he did not. The light was only partially restored,” he said.
