There is currently apprehension along Egbeda community, Alimosho, Lagos Mainland as a result of a loaded diesel tanker which developed a fault in the axis.
This incident is happening less than a week after a tanker explosion at the Otedola Bridge, Lagos Mainland, claimed more than nine lives with several others injured.
InsideMainland learnt that the loaded tanker conveying diesel developed a fault in the axis leaking its content on the access road in the process.
A source, Timi Blaze who confirmed the development to InsideMainland said the incident occurred at Moshalasi, an area between Egbeda and Iyana-Ipaja. “We quickly called the attention of the rescue workers who arrived about 45 minutes later. Presently, they have brought another tanker to the spot where the content of the faulty one is being offloaded into it. People are panicking and some businesses have already closed for fear of being caught unawares,” he said.
He added that men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other rescue agencies have been mobilized to the scene to prevent loss of lives and properties.
Also, the roads connecting the axis have been closed with the traffic managers creating a diversion to ensure that the situation is swiftly contained.
Reacting to the development, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in a Twitter post said: “Thanks for this, but are you aware that when you use the word “FUEL”, it activates the default setting in the minds of people to mean “PMS” (PETROL)? This will inadvertently raise panic levels.”
