Following the tanker explosion that rocked the Otedola bridge along Berger, Lagos Mainland earlier today, Thursday, June 28, 2018, nine persons have been confirmed dead with the victims burnt beyond recognition.
According to the spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Bisi Kazeem, four other victims sustained injuries while 54 vehicles got burnt in the inferno.
He disclosed that the accident occurred around 5.30pm giving the details of affected vehicles as one tanker, five buses, two trucks, one tricycle, and 45 cars.
Kazeem noted that the cause of accident was a break failure suffered by the petrol laden tanker while accessing the popular end of the bridge.
A Joint rescue operation involving FRSC, Lagos State Emergency Management Agecny (LASEMA), Police, Nigeria Security and CIvil Defence Corps, Lagos State Fire service, LASTMA rushed to the scene of the incident minutes after it happened to tend to affected victims.
Meanwhile, the identities of victims, as well as the details of their vehicles, cannot be ascertained as they were burnt beyond recognition, InsideMainland learnt.
In addition, the General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, disclosed that effort to recover all burnt vehicles off the road is ongoing.
