#MainlandSports: Agege-based MFM FC snatch rare away victory of the season

Lagos based Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club, MFM FC, bounced back to winning ways after losing two games on the bounce as they claimed their first away victory of the season against the Anambra Warriors in Matchday 24 fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played on Sunday at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium.

Four players, Olatunbosun Sikiru, Okorom Stanley, Nojeem Akinyemi and Uwaga Chuka were missing from the starting lineup due to injury but were replaced by Austine Opara, Onuwa Chukwuka, Zikiye Jonathan, Ademola Adeshola and Julius Emiloju who gave a good account of themselves with amazing displays.

The host dominated the first 45 minutes of the intriguing encounter creating series of goal scoring opportunities but MFM FC players were resolute with their performance.

Ekene Awazie and Patrick Ikeokwu had a chance to score in the 20th and 22nd minute but were denied by MFM FC goalkeeper, Nasamu Emmanuel.

The Lagos-based team came out stronger in the second half mounting the pressure on the home team with Onuwa Chukwuka, Akuneto Chijioke and Alade Balogun troubling the host defense.

Onuwa Chukwuka initiated a move from the midfield in the 59th minute and exchanged passes with Julius Emiloju and Akuneto before releasing his final pass to Balogun, who fired MFM FC in front with a low drive.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah were awarded a penalty six minutes later following a challenge on Patrick Ikeokwu by Nasamu. The goalkeeper sustained an injury due to that challenge and was treated on the pitch for few minutes.

The penalty was then taken in the 70th minute of play by Seka Pascal but Nasamu guessed right and parried the ball to the path of onrushing Wasiu Jimoh who failed to score from the rebound.

The game ended with the Olukoya Boys recording their first away win of the 2017/18 NPFL season as they moved from 13th spot on the table to 11th claiming 30 points from 24 league games.
