The heart of man they say is evil. The saying came to fruition when residents of Oshodi community, Lagos Mainland, apprehended a spare parts dealer, Isaiah Chukwu, for allegedly killing his lover identified simply as Joy.
According to reports, the suspect was arrested after residents noticed him carrying a bin where he stuffed the remains of his mutilated lover.
It was learnt that Chukwu and Joy, both indigenes of Ebonyi State, had been living together for the past two years without formalising the relationship. He allegedly murdered her at their residence on Balogun Street, Oshodi.
In the video and images of the incident which surfaced after he suspect’s arrest, he had tied up the deceased’s legs and knotted the top of the sack.
He had allegedly dragged the body around 4: 00 am to the ground floor of the house en route to a dustbin when he was accosted by some youths.
In a report by Punch, the youths who were suspicious of the content of the sack, reportedly questioned him as the suspect shunned them.
An Islamic cleric, who was passing by, was said to have opened the sack and discovered the corpse, which caused the mob to pounce on the suspect and beat him to a pulp. He was subsequently tied with his hands and legs to his back before the arrival of Police operatives who took him off the scene.
According to residents close to the couple, they were shocked because although the couple had yet to have a child, they lived together peacefully.
A trader, who did not want to be identified, told Punch that Chukwu had declared the victim missing some days earlier.
“The one-storeyed building where they lived had been contracted to a developer, who ordered all tenants in the house to leave. They were the only tenants remaining on the first floor. Some other tenants stayed on the ground floor.
“About four days ago, he said he had been looking for the woman and her telephone line had not been reachable. Later, he said it had been switched off,” the source said.
The development has however drawn wide condemnation from users on social media who were left in shock about the actions of the suspect.
InsideMainland learnt that the matter is currently been handled by the Lagos State Police Command.
