There was pandemonium in Agege community, Lagos Mainland, earlier today after the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward congress in the area turned bloody leading to the death of one person.
The deceased identified simply as Lanose, is a member of the APC from Ogba Tyre, Mangoro in Ward A, Agege, InsideMainland exclusively gathered.
Trouble started at Central Primary School, Oniwaya, Agege, Lagos Mainland, venue of the APC party ward congress when members purported belong to the camp of one Hon. Jubreel Abdulkareem disrupted the exercise upon realizing that their candidate is about to lose the election.
Sources in the party told InsideMainland that the hoodlums led by one Bosun and Oscar, who entered the venue of the congress with sophisticated weapons wreaked havoc in the area by shooting sporadically in the air.
“The thugs gained entrance into the venue to cause trouble because they had the support of the outgoing Ward Chairperson, Alhaja Abimbola Kuku.
“They ordered their boys to scatter the whole process when they realized that they had lost the election. They started shooting and every one present including the delegates had to run for dear life,” the source said.
During the sporadic shootings, the victim, Lanose, who was at the scene at the time was hit by a stay bullet on the back before he slumped, and died on the spot.
The thugs also damaged properties including cars parked around the venue smashing the car windshields in the process.
InsideMainland learnt that the shootings prompted the security operatives present to immediately call for back up. This led to the eventual arrest of Bosun and some of his gang members alongside the outgoing Ward A Chairperson, Alhaja Abimbola Kuku, Alhaja Olokode, and some party leaders in the community.
InsideMainland exclusively gathered that the thugs had attempted to disrupt the activities prior to the killings after they were prevented from gaining access into the congress venue.
“They almost brought down the gate of the school. It caught the attention of the Police and they fired tear gas to disperse the crowd that had gathered around the venue,” the source told InsideMainland.
He noted further that; “Some of the thugs who disrupted the whole thing belonged to different camps in the party. They must have gained access into the venue because of that to be able to disrupt the exercise.”
Sources told InsideMainland that the incident happened in the presence of the Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi, who couldn’t prevent the thugs from disrupting the exercise.
Presently, there is currently calmness in the community due to the interference of the security operatives.
