Reports have it that the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended some gunmen who attacked a vehicle in Amuwo Odofin, Lagos Mainland, killing the police escort, identified only as Sergeant Musa, and then escaping with the sum of N3m.
According to a report by Punch, the robbers also injured the driver of the vehicle in the well-orchestrated robbery which occurred sometimes in March 2018.
It was gathered that the deceased cop had escorted two officials of a plastic raw materials company in a Nissan Almera to a Zenith Bank branch at Amuwo Odofin around 2:00 pm to withdraw the cash. They were reportedly returning from the bank when the gunmen ambushed them on Babangida Road, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos Mainland, and opened fire on the car.
One Okoroafor, who drove the car, and the policeman, were shot by the assailants, while the third occupant of the vehicle escaped unhurt, Punch reports.
It was further reported that the robbers had fled the scene before the Police arrived at the spot.
A source, who lives in the community, told our correspondent that the robbers had fled with the money before a police team arrived at the scene.
Commenting on the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said the robbers had been arrested.
“The robbers in that incident have been arrested and we have recovered the rifle of the policeman. The suspects are helping the police to track their fleeing member. We are closing in on him. Without an insider, there won’t be an outsider. We will leave no stone unturned,” he said.
