Weeks after the Lagos State Government announced the initial payment for the contractors working on the proposed rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 181 roads across the 57 Local Government and Local Council Development Associations in the State, residents of Ijede community, Lagos Mainland have also witnessed the first phase of the road construction.
Few days ago, the construction company, Olufowora Enterprises Ltd, contracted to work on the Falilat Ajoje Salu Street, Ijede, Lagos Mainland, moved to site and has commenced work in the area.
The dilapidated road is a major link road in Ijede community with motorists witnessing heavy gridlock in the axis as a result of the state of the road, InsideMainland gathered.
With work commencing on the road, it is expected that the rehabilitation of the road will bring ease to motorists who ply the road on a regular basis.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Alhaji Fatiu Salisu, who visited the site of the construction, has urged residents to persevere and support the construction workers so as not to stall the ongoing work.
He urged the contractor to ensure due diligence is done as well as ensure the road is completed in the proposed six months duration. The road when completed will have street lights powered by a standby diesel generating set, drainage channels as well as drain covers.
