Weeks after InsideMainland reported the ongoing palliative works ongoing at the dilapidated Ikorodu – Sagamu road which was facilitated by the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, who also represents the Ikorodu Constituency I in the Assembly, residents of the area have expressed their thoughts on the situation.
According to the residents, the current palliative work which commenced two weeks ago has not brought the desired change to the horrific situation motorists are meant to face plying the route daily.
Presently, residents of Odogunyan, Jubilee Estate, First gate, and other communities in the axis have resorted to using motorcycles and Keke Napep to access their various destinations.
According to Akinola Victor, a resident of Odogunyan community, Ikorodu, Lagos Mainland, the situation of the road have remained a major cause of worry for residents who use the road on a daily basis. “There are no major changes on the road,” he said.
“The construction workers of the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) have been using stones and other materials to fill some very bad portions of the road but it has not brought the desired change we crave.
“If you drive from Ikorodu High School junction all the way to Sawmill, the road is in terrible shape. We can’t continue to use stones to fill the roads when it is not well graded or there is no proper drainage and we expect to get positive result. There is need to immediately find a lasting solution to the problem,” he added.
Another resident, Fatai Alabi, told InsideMainland that driving through the road daily brings him close to tears. “I can’t believe we have a government and a major road that link communities will be in this state. I have been driving through this route for the past seven years and the road has gone from bad to worse,” he stated.
“Before now, we would see construction workers using granite to fill the bad portions. These days, they don’t even use that anymore because the road has totally gone bad that it needs total rehabilitation,” Alabi added.
To a commercial bus driver who identified himself simply as Sunky, the lack of an alternative road should kick the interest of the government at the Federal and State level to fix the road.
Recall that InsideMainland earlier reported the road repair facilitated by Hon. Sanai Agunbiade in the axis.
In addition, the dilapidated road has gained the attention of the Federal Government has the issue has been deliberated in the House of Representatives on different occasions due to the involvement of Hon. Babajimi Benson, the lawmaker representing Ikorodu at the Federal House of Representatives.
