In the aftermath of the purported list accredited for eligible voters to register in the ongoing INEC CVR exercise and the rumour of the exercise closing on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, that followed, InsideMainland has obtained the authentic accredited list from the Commission.
Recall that the Commission while reacting to the development, said: “Rumours have been going round on different platforms that the Commission will be ending the CVR on 31/01/18. This information is false & misleading. The exercise is ongoing and will continue until the Commission announces a suspension much later in the year in accordance to the law.”
Eligible residents who are yet to register for the voters’ card can still do so since the exercise is still ongoing.
Presently, Lagos Mainland residents and others across Lagos State can visit any of the 20 Local Government Areas in Lagos to register and obtain a Temporary Voters Card.
Meanwhile, residents of Kosofe, Lagos Mainland, have expressed their dissatisfaction on the ongoing exercise in the community.
According to a concerned resident who identified himself as Akinyemi, the officials of the Commission deliberately delay those who approach the centre to register. “They have deliberately shown lack of respect and proper attention to those who come here,” he said.
“One would end up spending the whole day for an exercise that shouldn’t have lasted more than 15 or 20 minutes. If they are not complaining of a bad network, they would say they are not exceeding a certain number for a particular day. The management of INEC need to address this,” he added.
Corroborating, Akinyemi, another resident who have waited for more than seven hours and yet to be attended to said: “I have been here since 7:00 am and at 2:35 pm, they officials are yet to attened to me. When I got here this morning, I was handed a list to write my name and I was number 60. But at this time, I am yet to even submit the form given to me and have my data captured.
“It appears that the officials might be using the opportunity to help their own people because I see no reason why obtaining a temporary card can take this long.”
Meanwhile, an official of the Commission at the LG who doesn’t want to be named advised the residents to be calm adding that the exercise is not ending anytime soon.
“The number of people rushing here has tripled in the last few days. It is important that they know the exercise is not ending anytime soon, so, they shouldn’t be worried.
“We have heard reports that the Commission is trying to deliberately disenfranchise a lot of people but such claims are mere rumours. Please help inform the populace that the exercise is continuous and open to eligible person,” he said.
