The management of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, has debunked the viral claims that the ongoing voters’ registration exercise will close on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
In a message which surfaced via social networking app, WhatsApp, it was alleged that the exercise has been the most silent I have ever seen and that it closes on January 31, 2018.
While reacting to the development, the management of INEC said: “Rumours have been going round on different platforms that the Commission will be ending the CVR on 31/01/18.
“This information is false & misleading. The exercise is ongoing and will continue until the Commission announces a suspension much later in the year in accordance to the law.”
Meanwhile, eligible residents who are yet to register for the voters’ card can still do so since the exercise is still ongoing across the INEC offices at the 20 LGAs in Lagos State.
“The CVR exercise is ongoing at the INEC LGA offices Nationwide and in other approved centres by the Commission,” INEC management told InsideMainland.
The Commission added that: “The LGA Offices are the static registration centres for now while other centres are determined by the Electoral Officers of each of the LGAs.”
The CVR exercise is open Mondays to Fridays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm daily across the accredited centres.
