#MainlandSports: 2018 Bolowotan Gold Cup kicks off in Ikorodu on Sunday

The organizers of the annual Gafar Bolowotan Gold Cup have announced the kick-off date for the 2018 edition of the tourney.

According to the organizers, the competition will kick -off on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at the Police Barracks Pitch, Igbogbo Road, Ikorodu.

InsideMainland exclusively gathered that the draws for this year’s tournament has been conducted with top sides such as AACC Football Club, Perfect Touch FC, Teslim Thunder Balogun, Macbeth FC, among several other grassroots side participating in the tournament.

Speaking on this year’s tourney, the proprietor of Bolowotan Football Club, Toyin Bolowotan said the grassroots football competition tagged ‘Ikorodu World Cup’ would serve as an avenue for Nigeria’s National League clubs to recruit players and also to further expose the footballers to better club opportunities.

He stressed that the participating footballers should desist from violence which could mar the tournament adding that they should take advantage of the opportunity to showcase their talents to visiting coaches and top talent managers who would throng the match centres to scout for new talents ahead of the commencement of the new Nigerian football season.

“A technical committee will be set up to select the best two midfielders who will be recommended to the chief coach of MFM FC, Fidelis Ilechukwu, to join the Nigeria Professional Football League side because we have an existing relationship with the club’s management,” he added.

Speaking further, Toyin Bolowotan, praised Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for approving the construction of stadia in Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry in 2018.
